Sundance Film Festival 2024

This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States. For 10 days in the scenic mountain town of Park City, Utah, more than 125 feature-length films from 29 countries were showcased. Every year, up to 35,000 people attend the annual event, which serves as a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. Founded by actor Robert Redford, the festival is designed to introduce new voices in the film industry. Redford’s mission has been successful, as the festival has premiered films such as An Inconvenient Truth, Boyhood and Won’t You Be My Neighbor, which have gone on to achieve critical and commercial success. Around 60 films from the festival tour around the U.S. all the way up until the following Sundance, and about 20 of the films make their way to Salt Lake City. The festival has also expanded internationally, with the Sundance London festival receiving critical acclaim for promoting cultural exchange between American and European independent film alike. The Sundance Film Festival received more than 14,200 submissions this year. However, only 118 of the superlative and original films were chosen for the final roster. These films ranged from straight-up horror films to poignant documentaries – and the spirit of the festival was such that equal enthusiasm was afforded to both.
